Position Overview:
As a Hardware Mechanical Design Engineer at LiteLinx, you will play a pivotal role in the development and improvement of our fiber optic hardware products. You will be responsible for making design changes to existing products to enhance their performance, reliability, and manufacturability, as well as designing new products to meet the evolving needs of our customers. Additionally, a willingness to participate in sourcing activities is a significant advantage for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, product managers, and manufacturing teams, to define design requirements and objectives.
- Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for new product designs.
- Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software to develop mechanical designs for fiber optic hardware components and assemblies.
- Perform stress and thermal analyses to ensure product reliability under varying conditions.
- Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and manufacturing documentation for prototypes and production.
- Evaluate and select materials, components, and suppliers to optimize cost, quality, and performance.
- Prototype and test new designs, making iterative improvements based on test results and customer feedback.
- Implement design changes to existing products, addressing performance issues and manufacturing constraints.
- Work closely with the sourcing team to identify and evaluate potential suppliers, negotiate contracts, and ensure the availability of necessary materials and components.
- Collaborate with the quality assurance team to establish and maintain design verification and validation processes.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in fiber optic hardware design.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience in mechanical design, preferably in the fiber optic or telecommunications industry.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and familiarity with simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL).
- Strong problem-solving skills and a creative mindset.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes used in fiber optic hardware.
- Familiarity with sourcing and procurement processes is a significant plus.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for supplier visits and other business-related purposes.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
